Army Officer probably linked to Massive Data Breach in Thailand

Bangkok: An army officer has been identified as the individual behind a hacking incident compromising data of 55 million Thai citizens.

The hacker, using the name “9Near,” gained access to sensitive personal information, including national ID numbers, addresses, and phone numbers, allegedly obtained from government sources. Following an investigation by the Technology Crime Suppression Division (TCSD), it was revealed that the perpetrator was a non-commissioned officer, close to a high-profile political figure. The officer was handed over to the police by his unit.

The Ministry of Digital Economy and Society’s Chaiwut Thanakamanusorn confirmed the arrest and stated that further investigations are underway. The hacker could face charges for spreading false information and endangering national security, with the possibility of others, including the officer’s associates, being implicated.
